Samsung aim to bring colour laser printing into the home and small office with the CLP-300n, which boasts a small desktop footprint and an even smaller price tag. Purchase price is not the only thing that has made colour laser printers out of reach of home or small office user, the price of the consumables are usually uneconomically viable. The solution to the problem of laser printer cartridges being too expensive for lower volume users has been to make the Samsung CLP-300n toner cartridges smaller and yield less pages. Each of the Samsung toner cartridges lasts for 1,000 pages, with the exception of the 2,000-sheet mono cartridge which gives the printer a cost per page of around 2p for black and 10p for colour. These costs can be reduced by using compatible Samsung toner cartridges which are on average 50% cheaper than the genuine OEM products. Fully network ready the CLP-300 can be shared between numerous PC via the built in Ethernet adapter for can be used with a standalone PC via the USB port. Print output produced by the CLP-300n is surprisingly good for any entry level machine, the factory settings are a little heavy in printing text but this is easily adjusted using the simple to use control panel. The only compromises that have been made are the single imaging drum which has been implemented to keep costs to a minimum and result is slow colour printing speeds. While mono document printing is a reasonable 16ppm colour is four times as slow with 4ppm. If you are looking for a reliable colour laser printer for a small workgroup than the Samsung CLP-300n is definitely worth considering.
